Simi, Chef-Proprietor  |  Wanderlust owner and head chef Simi Hansen traded her business suit for a chef jacket in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since.

After studying Construction Management at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Simi worked as a Project Manager in commercial construction before deciding to pursue the culinary arts full time. Upon graduating from the International Culinary Center with top honors, Simi honed her skills at Oakland's Camino restaurant and with the celebrated Bay Area caterer, Paula LeDuc Fine Catering.

Before opening her own company, Simi fit what she could in a 40-liter backpack and embarked on a two-year journey around the world. She climbed volcanos, swam with sharks, and fell in love with all kinds of new cuisines. Perhaps most importantly, she experienced life in regions with limited resources, which influenced her passion for sustainability. Upon returning to the States, Simi kept the dream alive by opening Wanderlust Catering: a creative outlet where she could play with her food, meet new people, and be inspired every day. 

Simi is the heart of Wanderlust Catering. When she's not meticulously balancing flavors in the kitchen, you'll find her creating bespoke menus, collaborating with clients, and ensuring that all events go off without a hitch. She lives in a constant state of wanderlust. 


Matt, Sous Chef  |  Since joining the team full-time in 2015, Sous Chef Matthew Kluz has become the other half of Wanderlust Catering.

Together, he and Simi create and develop the dishes and menus that have given the company its great reputation. 

Also a distinguished graduate of the International Culinary Center, Matt's experience includes New York's DOJO, Diner, and The Good Fork and San Francisco's sustainable seafood restaurant, Waterbar. He and Simi met while working at Paula LeDuc Fine Catering.

Aside from the cooking he does in the prep kitchen, Matt is Wanderlust Catering's go-to for sourcing, procurement, and onsite culinary management.


Sunnee, Assistant Event Coordinator  | When Sunnee Calhoun started with Wanderlust Catering in 2014, she was a recent graduate of Saint Mary's College looking for an opportunity get her feet wet in the event industry. 

Sunnee started as a server and quickly moved up the ranks. In 2015, she started leading the front-of-house team on Wanderlust Catering's special events. When Simi realized she could use a hand in the office, Sunnee began working part-time during high season to coordinate logistics for the service team and assist with event staffing, rentals, and office administration. 

Outside of Wanderlust Catering, Sunnee coordinates events for the City of Walnut Creek and the American Heart Association.
